Canada’s hopes of qualifying for the FIFA U-20 World Cup were ended on Tuesday night by a 4:2 loss to USA in the quarter-final of the 2013 CONCACAF U-20 Championship at the Estadio Universitario BUAP in Puebla, Mexico.

The Canadian U-20’s took an early lead through a long-range strike from Dylan Carreiro before conceding four unanswered goals to let any hopes of qualifying for Turkey 2013 slip away.

Samuel Piette brought Canada back to within two goals with a fine strike from outside the area but the damage had been done and the Canadians crashed out of the CONCACAF Championship.

“You have to congratulate USA,” said Canadian Head Coach Nick Dasovic after the game.

“The boys gave it everything they had but it just seemed it wasn’t to be.

“Their third goal just ahead of half-time killed us and we were always fighting an uphill battle from then on.”

Canada finishes its run at the 2013 CONCACAF Championship with a record of 1W-0D-2L in three games.

Midfielder Piette and striker Caleb Clarke finish the tournament as joint top scorers for Canada with two goals each.
