KrajicekRebecca Marino (Vancouver, BC) had her run at the Bell Challenge, a $220,000 WTA International Series event in Quebec City, ended in the quarter-finals on Friday night at PEPS on the campus of Laval University.

Marino fell 6-1, 6-3 to Michaella Krajicek of the Netherlands, ranked no. 138 in the world. The 20-year-old Canadian got off to a slow start and was never able to recover, winning just 10 of 43 points on Krajicek’s serve.

Marino reached the Bell Challenge quarter-finals for the second consecutive year thanks to a pair of victories over her compatriots Stéphanie Dubois and Aleksandra Wozniak in the opening rounds.

Marino will now travel to Asia to compete in two WTA Premier indoor events in Tokyo and Beijing beginning in two weeks.

Junior ITF event concludes in Montreal

The 2011 U18 Canadian World ranking tournament, a Grade 3 ITF junior event, wrapped up at Uniprix Stadium in Montreal on Friday with the presentation of the boys and girls singles finals.

The boys singles final featured a Canadian. Samuel Monette (Repentigny, QC), a member of Tennis Canada’s National Training Centre program, dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision to top-seeded Maxim Dubarenco of Moldova, ranked no. 24 on the ITF junior rankings. In the girls championship match, eighth-seeded American Chalena Scholl defeated top-seeded Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
