The Canadian Fed Cup team rebounded after their loss to Argentina on Thursday, sweeping the Bahamas 3-0 in their final tie of the round robin stage on Friday at the Fed Cup, Americas Zone Group I event currently underway in Curitiba, Brazil on the outdoor clay courts at the Graciosa Country Club.

After injuring her right foot in her last match, Aleksandra Wozniak (Blainville, QC) will be back in Montreal today to go through tests and determine the severity of the injury. Marie-Ève Pelletier (Repentigny, QC) was called on to play singles against the Bahamas and responded with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Gabrielle Moxey. Stéphanie Dubois (Laval, QC) gave Canada a 2-0 lead defeating Simone Pratt 6-1, 6-1 to post her first victory of the week. In doubles, Sharon Fichman (Toronto, ON) and Pelletier completed the Canadian sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Moxey and Nikkita Fountain.

Meanwhile, Argentina earned a spot in Saturday’s Americas Zone Group I Fed Cup final with a win over Peru. This means that Canada will finish second in their group and will have to wait another year to qualify for the World Group II playoffs. On Saturday, the Canadian squad will play the loser of the tie between Brazil and Colombia for third place in this year’s Americas zonal event.
