Luis Bravo’s Forever Tango debuts at the Flato Markham Theatre on Friday, October 28 at 8PM. Forever Tango features 14 world-class tango dancers, including Dancing with Stars pros Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovskiy, one vocalist, and an onstage orchestra that celebrates the passionate music and dance of Argentina.

Forever Tango premiered on Broadway in 1998 and was nominated for the Tony Award for “Best Choreography.” Due to the popularity of the show, Forever Tango ran for 14 months, well past their expected 8-week engagement. Luis Bravo’s masterpiece has since been brought back to Broadway three times, making it one of the longest running tango shows of all time.

With Forever Tango, Bravo hopes to convey “the sultry, wailing, magnetic music of the immigrant, coexisting in the same skin with the pain and loneliness of being forced to leave the misery of Europe in the early 1900s.”

The show, which is his tribute to immigrants, conveys a sense of wanting and of loneliness comingled with the intense passion of the Argentinean tango, making it difficult for the audience to look away. Bravo’s visceral portrayal of immigration comes from his own experiences, having moved to the United States to study at the Los Angeles Philharmonic Institute at age 23.

Forever Tango is the result of careful collaboration between Bravo and each pair of dancers. The show includes both original and traditional music performed by an orchestra, which features the bandoneón, the 19th century accordion otherwise known as the ‘instrument of tango.’ Now, it your turn to experience this internationally acclaimed sensation a bit closer to home.
