Breathless (À bout de souffle): New Restoration of Godard’s Classic

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presents a screening of Breathless (À bout de souffle) in a newly restored 35-millimeter print made for the 1960 French New Wave classic’s 50th anniversary. The feature film debut of writer-director Jean-Luc Godard, Breathless stars Jean-Paul Belmondo as a young petty criminal on the run from the law, and Jean Seberg as his American girlfriend. The film’s stylized take on the crime genre changed the face of cinema worldwide, and served as a major influence on filmmakers as diverse as Bernardo Bertolucci, Martin Scorsese, Steven Soderbergh and Quentin Tarantino.
