Red carpet rolls out for the stars in town
The inaugural Rogers Punjabi International Film Festival (PIFF) bought to you by RBC is set to commence just days. Adding to the excitement and kick starting celebrations with a musical touch, renowned Punjabi singer Jasbir Jassi is in town to enthrall fans with an exclusive live performance at the PIFF Opening night Gala.
“It gives me great pride to be the first Punjabi singer ever to perform and represent the government of India at the worlds biggest film festival,” says Jassi. Jassi is in Ontario for the first ever Rogers Punjabi International Film Festival taking place from May 18-21 2012 in Mississauga, Brampton and Toronto.
“The excitement is here!” says festival President Sunny Gill. “We’re very happy to have great Punjabi singers and actors here for the festival for people of all ages and backgrounds to enjoy.” The festival will feature free film screenings at Humber College on May 19 and 20 and a day of entertainment and movies at Mississauga Celebration Square on Sunday.
Fittingly concluding the first ever Rogers Punjabi International Film Festival will be National Award Winning film, Anhe Ghore Da Daan (Alms for A Blind Horse) by acclaimed director Gurvinder Singh. First premiering at Venice International Film Festival and after bagging the Special Jury Award at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival, PIFF is the perfect platform to honour and acknowledge the Punjabi film’s winning ways. The film will be screened at the Rose Theatre in Brampton on May 21, Monday.
The grand finale to the PIFF Toronto four day film extravaganza will be the Closing Night concert, featuring performances by highly successful Punjabi artists Gippy Grewal and Labh Janjua.
