"Maudit"

Triumvirate Pi Theatre's new puppetry work Maudit uses the story of bohemian painter Amadeo Modigliani's gifted wife Jeanne Hebuterne to explore the myth of the cursed female artist. While nine months pregnant with her second child, Hebuterne threw herself from the fifth floor window of her parents' apartment after the death of her lover. The story takes on the issues of gender, race, power and obsession from a female perspective in order to both honor Hebuterne's life and to enlighten you on the struggle of women artists. Written and directed by Tri-Pi Theatre's Artistic Director Leslie K. Gray, this lyrical yet disturbing depiction is told through the disjointed intersections of memory and historical misinterpretations, and features a wide variety of puppet forms to thrill puppet aficionados and performance theater lovers alike.
