Josh T. Ryan directs this fast-paced horrorfest that takes the original story’s bloodthirsty Scots noblemen and recasts them as post-apocalyptic lunatics taking over the asylum. This is not your college professor’s Shakespeare. Full of gore, guts and energy, this high-impact reboot clocks in at little over an hour and is not for the faint of heart with its shocking imagery and preening, androgynous MacBeth. Yet Shakespeare himself, whose plays were crowdpleasers for audiences from all walks of life, would probably approve of this sexy, thrill-a-minute spectacle that captures the themes of his timeworn tale and transforms them into a visceral theatrical experience for the modern theatergoer.
