Secret Rose Theatre’s production of Douglas Carter Beane’s The Little Dog Laughed returns to the stage at Zephyr Theatre after a successful run in North Hollywood. This satirical examination of the scandalous world of celebrities playfully exposes the challenges of being gay in Hollywood. A rising movie star is pulled in all directions by his spin-doctor agent, the sexy “rent-boy” who has caught his eye (and more) and the rent-boy’s naïve and needy girlfriend — not to mention the photographers who track their every move. In its off-Broadway run, The Little Dog Laughed was nominated for the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding New York Theatre; upon moving to Broadway, it earned a Tony nomination for Best Play.
