Hawkins plays Joplin, bringing the audience into the singer’s world, offering a modern-day retrospective on her turbulent life and revealing her thoughts on love, sex, fame and belonging. The show premieres on the anniversary of Joplin’s untimely death at Macha Theatre, just blocks away from Barney’s Beanery, where the singer had her last drink. Showcasing both Janis Joplin tunes and Sophie B. Hawkins’ own original songs, it’s a night of music and theater that encourages audience participation.
