Laemmle’s NoHo 7 (North Hollywood, CA)
The rock comedy Vinyl screens as the Centerpiece Feature of the acclaimed Valley Film Festival, now in its 12th year. Based on the true story of a hoax perpetrated in England in 2004, an aging rocker knows he won’t be able to get airplay for his new pop punk single, so he releases it under the name of a young, fresh-faced band. But since the group doesn’t exactly exist, he’s left scrambling to recruit its members and train them in true punk style. Welsh actress-director Sara Sugarman directs Phil Daniels, Keith Allen, Perry Benson and Jamie Blackley in this sharp music-industry satire. The screening also includes the short film L’equip Petit (The Little Team), a documentary about a kids’ soccer team in Spain.
