Pacific Resident Theatre (Venice, CA)
Having been under the control of either her father or her husband, Nora finally begins to question the foundations of her beliefs. Set in Norway on Christmas Eve, 1878, Ingmar Bergman’s concise play strips Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House down to the core story of a woman who is on the verge of leaving her husband, children and the only life she has ever known. The story remains an astonishingly significant comment on women’s rights and Bergman sought to “to tell, to talk about, the wholeness inside every human being” with his script. Pacific Resident Theatre’s production represents a Los Angeles stage premiere of the play.
