Walt Disney Concert Hall (Los Angeles, CA)
A Tony, Grammy and Drama Desk Award-winner — not to mention a 2011 Kennedy Center honoree — Barbara Cook has gone from being Broadway’s favorite ingénue in signature roles like Marian the Librarian in The Music Man to a still-sought-after concert and recording artist. Throughout her incredible career that has endured for over half a century, Cook’s silvery soprano has retained its pure tone and warm presence, to much critical and popular acclaim. In 2010, at the age of 83, Cook earned a Tony nomination for her performance in Sondheim on Sondheim on Broadway, and she’s still going strong, performing with a number of symphony orchestras, in cabaret settings and at such esteemed venues as Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center and London’s Royal Albert Hall. For this concert at the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Cook will be accompanied by the Los Angeles Philharmonic as she celebrates her 85th birthday and tackles tunes from the Great White Way’s greatest composers, including Bernstein, Berlin, Gershwin, Rodgers and, of course, Sondheim.
