The Alex Theatre hosts the third annual Greatest Cartoons Ever! event, a screening of classic theatrical shorts from Hollywood’s Golden Age, on the Saturday after Christmas. In the ’30s, ’40s and ’50s, no film screening was complete without a cartoon, and at this show, you’ll see some of the greatest of them, featuring iconic characters like Mickey Mouse, Bugs Bunny, Popeye, Betty Boop, Donald, and even the original Superman — all projected in 35mm on the big screen at the beautiful and historic Alex Theatre, a Glendale movie palace which actually showed many of these cartoons during their original runs. Curated by animation historian and author Jerry Beck, Greatest Cartoons Ever! is a delightful trip back in time for the whole family.
