Every Letter Counts

January 26 – February 24, 2013

Memory. Mortality. Imagination.

In her search for inspiration, Bunny looks back at the legacy of her uncle, Filipino political and cultural icon Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino, and discovers he has given her more than the power of words. He has given her the power to shape her own destiny.

Nina Lee Aquino is a Filipina-Canadian playwright, director, dramaturge, and actor. She was a founding member and Artistic Director of fu-GEN Asian Canadian Theatre Company and is currently Artistic Director of Cahoots Theatre Company and a member of Factory’s Interim Artistic Team. Aquino is a multiple award-winner (Ken McDougall Award, the John Hirsch Prize, Dora Mavor Moore Award) and has been an Associate Artist of Factory Theatre for three years. Every Letter Counts was developed through Factory Theatre’s Play Development Program and is the first Factory production of one of Nina Lee Aquino’s plays.

Wonder. Whimsy. What If’s.

This hilarious song cycle is a musical litany of our needs, wants and what we share online. Stuffed penguins, decapitated dolls and love for sale. Composer Veda Hille and the CBC’s Bill Richardson enchant us with what humanity has to offer.

Veda Hille has been writing songs, making records, and playing shows all over since 1992. She has released 13 albums, the latest being Young Saint Marie.

Bill Richardson is an award-winning writer and broadcaster with CBC Radio since 1984 and currently host of “Saturday Afternoon at the Opera” and “In Concert.”

Stopheart

May 4 – 26, 2013

Skidding. Kidding. Unforbidding.

Growing up in a small town is hard. Growing up “different” in a small town in Northern Ontario called South Porcupine is even harder. Stopheart is a heart-wrenching side-splitting dark comedy.

Amy Lee Lavoie is a graduate of the National Theatre School of Canada. Rabbit Rabbit, conceived in her first year at NTS, was part of Infinitheatre’s Pipeline series, CanStage’s Ideas and Creation Festival, SummerWorks and the Edmonton Fringe. It received its premiere production with Infinitheatre, earning Amy Lee two MECCA’s for Best Text and the Revelation Award. She was a Canada Council Playwright-in-Residence at Factory Theatre during 2011-12, a member of Factory’s Natural Resources creation group, a member of the Playwriting Forum at Citadel Theatre and a member of Cahoots Theatre’s Playwrights’ HotHouse.
