They say “you can’t go home again,” but what if you could? Paul North’s new play The Gambler’s Daughter explores what happens when a woman visits her father for the first time in seven years. Both Mary and her father Lloyd are good with numbers — Mary as an actuary, Lloyd as a cardsharp — and both have plenty of surprises up their sleeves. First, Mary surprises Lloyd with her fiancé. Not to be outdone, Lloyd introduces Elaine, his live-in “companion,” as well as Willy, a mathematically gifted teenager, who may (or may not) be Mary’s half-brother. The stakes could not be higher in this witty but tender-hearted world premiere by the Eclectic Theatre Company. Odds are you’ll long remember The Gambler’s Daughter.
