Geffen Playhouse presents the American premiere of acclaimed Australian playwright Joanna Murray-Smith’s provocative new comedy The Gift. While vacationing at a ritzy resort, two couples meet and become fast friends. The pairs come from different worlds: Ed and Sadie are middle-aged, wealthy and reserved, while Martin and Chloe are budding artists brimming with confidence and ready to leave their mark on the world. A seemingly inconsequential event throws a monkey wrench into the couples’ newfound friendship, not to mention their own relationships, forcing the vacationing foursome to wrestle with a moral dilemma: while it’s human nature to want what you don’t have, is it unnatural to abandon something that you do?
