High-step aside, Lord of the Dance — there’s a older, wilder, more freewheeling form of Irish performance art coming to Caltech. An adaptation of a hit touring production in Ireland, Atlantic Steps introduces the world to sean-nós (literally, “old style”) dance via the unbridled enthusiasm and innovation of Brian Cunningham, its headlining performer. The show, titled Fuaim Cchonamara in its native country, revels in the traditions of the Connemara region, the country’s Gaelic-speaking heartland, with plenty of foot-stomping, hand-clapping, heartfelt folk music and dance.
