Neighborhood Church (Pasadena, CA)
Pasadena Pro Musica presents the second annual music festival honoring the great Viennese master of melody, Franz Schubert. Schubertiade gets off to a rousing start at Neighborhood Church with an all-Schubert concert, including choruses and songs from the Viennese play, Rosamunde. While the play is lost to time, the music remains among some of Schubert’s most famous pieces. This first evening will also feature works for mixed and women’s chorus, selected songs and piano duets. For the second concert, tenor soloist Shawn Thuris will perform Winterreise, the second of Schubert’s two great song cycles on Müller’s poems, accompanied by Robert Thies on the piano. For the third concert, the winners of the Collegiate and High School Lieder vocal competitions earlier in the week will perform songs by Schubert. The festival finishes off with a mixed program of Brahms and Schubert. Please see the full event description for detailed program information.
