The Sherry Theatre (North Hollywood, CA)
The Cover of Life begins when Henry Luce, publisher of Life magazine, thinks he’s found the perfect cover story. It’s 1943 and the Clifford brothers are off to war. In an effort to save money, their young wives — Sybil, Tood and Weetsie — move into the home of their mother-in-law. Luce sends Kate, a “girl reporter” fresh off a tour of war-ravaged Europe, to write a puff piece about this trio of virtuous women pining for their far-off husbands. Kate, however, has other plans — and, luckily for her, Sybil, Tood and Weetsie are far from the perfect models of womanhood Luce has imagined. Using his mother’s wartime memories as his inspiration, playwright R.T. Robinson fills his hit play with unforgettable characters and authentic Southern charm. Directed by Kay Cole, The Cover of Life now comes to the Sherry Theatre in North Hollywood.
