Sean Healy presents rap artist Yasiin Bey, aka Mos Def, live in concert at the Belasco Theatre. One of the most talented musicians to come out of the late ’90s rap scene, Yasiin Bey is also an accomplished film actor and political activist. Bey got his start working with like-minded rap musician Talib Kweli. Their album Black Star was critically acclaimed for its sophisticated rhymes, rugged beats and mixture of old and new school sensibilities. He went on to launch a successful solo career, showing that he was capable of the same clever wordplay and infectious rhythms on his own. Now he’s bringing those words and rhythms to the Belasco Theatre, downtown L.A.’s premiere nightlife destination. Originally built in 1926 and recently brought back to life after 20 years of dormancy, the Belasco features a state-of-the-art sound system and updated decor that combines modern elegance with the theater’s historic grandeur.
