Voices: Race Relations and Romance Collide at Bethel Encino
Bethel Encino (Encino, CA)
Lena’s Black Nationalist upbringing discourages her from dating white men. But in Voices, she finds herself involved with David, who is white. Further complicating matters, research for Lena’s next writing project means she’s spending time listening to National Archive recordings of emancipated slaves. Her family tradition, these “voices” and her growing feelings for David all soon collide in this thoughtful drama by Les Wieder. Griot Theatre of the West Valley co-founder and Artistic Director Malik B. El-Amin directs the show.
