However, it’s about to be sold at auction unless delinquent property taxes are paid — but no one seems to be willing able to grasp the gravity of the situation. This timeless tale is particularly resonant today, with its treatment of mortgage and debt and a changing socioeconomic climate. Salvation turns bittersweet when a former serf turned businessman steps in to save the day … and then proceeds to tear down the trees and build a new development.
