Through the streets of Vaughan, an anticipated 200 cyclists will test their endurance and skills as they cycle one of two route options: GranFondo (100 km), or MediaFondo (60 km) routes. To begin the race, Father Claudio Moser will conduct a blessing on the event and participants. Throughout the day, participants will enjoy Italian-themed delights, including a pre-ride breakfast, rest stops with mangia and beve, and a post-ride lunch. As a nod to the Giro dItalia tradition, the maglia rosa (pink jersey) will be presented to the top Giro 2013 fundraiser. New for 2013, the first male and female cyclist to make it up Passo Fragola (Strawberry Hill) will be crowned King/Queen of the Mountain. The very first Villa Charities Giro was co-founded by Edward Sorbara in 2006 with 50 cyclists participating. With five Giros under its belt, the events have raised more than $340,000 to support the important and unique work of Villa Charities, a family of organizations that has grown its mandate of providing care for seniors to include support for individuals with intellectual disabilities and mental health issues, as well as increase the cultural programming that enriches the lives of many in the community.
