Theatrecraft Playhouse (Los Angeles, CA)

The seeds that sprouted Rebecca’s Gamble, the thrilling courtroom drama now at the Theatrecraft Playhouse, were planted when the family of Ted Williams, the Baseball Hall of Famer whose body currently is in cryogenic suspension, approached co-playwright (and lawyer) Robert Begam about some possible legal work. Although he did not take the case, his imagination was captivated by cryogenics, eventually leading him to collaborate with veteran scribe Art Shulman (The Rabbi & The Shiksa, Not One More Foot of Land!, Bagels, etc.) on this brave and startling work. Rebecca’s Gamble begins as a beautiful doctor overdoses a willing patient before freezing him “cryonically,” fully expecting to revive him in the future. Plans are quickly complicated when she is arrested for murder. Now a jury must decide whether she is a murderer … or a saint.
