In 1837 the very first Daguerreotype image was produced, and the reaction was heard round the world. The painter Paul Delaroche declared “From today painting is dead!” Painters were forced to change their tactics in order to compete with the fierce impact of photography in the art world. From this point some incredible, boundary-pushing art movements arose. But realism in painting fell by the waist-side and photography proved to be a much more accurate portrayal of reality. This exhibit poses the questions: what effect does photography have in representational painting in 2013? Can photography emote the same painterly, expressive aura that comes from a painting? In this mixed media exhibit, artists create a visual conversation as they state their claims through their art work. RECEPTION 7PM DJ 10PM 134 Ossington Ave OZ STUDIOS Food served by LA RIVOLTA
