Geffen Playhouse – Audrey Skirball Kenis Theater (Los Angeles, CA)
Acclaimed stand-up Judy Gold takes a laugh-filled look at how she grew up to be an extremely tall Jewish lesbian mother of two, through the lens of the classic sitcoms of the ’70s through the ’90s. Dubbed an “infectiously nostalgic memoir with music” by The New York Times, this well-reviewed Off-Broadway solo show recounts how Gold’s New Jersey adolescence turned out to be disappointingly different than Marcia, Jan and Cindy’s, and decidedly less musical than The Partridge Family‘s, while still filled with plenty of both touching and comical moments. Backed up by clever multimedia elements and original music, Gold even discusses her quest to star in her own sitcom, instead of acting one out on stage — a dream that seems even more doable now that she’s in L.A.
