Musical Theatre West picks out another gem for its Reiner Reading Series — 1953’s Best Musical Kismet by Robert Wright and George Forrest, adapted from the music of Alexander Borodin. Well-known tunes like “Stranger in Paradise,” “Baubles, Bangles, and Beads,” and “Not Since Ninevah” highlight this Middle-Eastern-set story of a scheming poet and his daughter, who get mixed up in adventure and romance. Performed with minimal costumes and props and with scripts in hand, the series offers an opportunity to see and hear rarely-mounted shows in a semi-concert setting.
