ACTION > ARCHIVE > ACTION A group discussion, all welcome! Facilitated by Maggie Flynn June 26, 7-9pm 52 McCaul This is discussion is a “Night School” session for PUBLIC ACTION! A publications residency facilitated by Shannon Gerrard and Mary Tremonte Leave aside for a moment the images of dusty boxes and stacks of paper that cling to the word archive. For this discussion we’ll think about archiving as any act that preserves accumulated knowledge and collective memory. How can the process of archiving past or present social movements give direction or even instruction for future action? Can collected information serve as a conduit for action? How do we keep track of movement and change in the communities we are a part of? How can processes of archiving reflect the values of the activity being documented? Participants will be encouraged to share their own experiences or examples in relation to this topic. We’ll discuss the ways that we have learned from, or felt the resonance of people who have worked before you in any group, movement, or institutions. This conversation will also inform the direction of a future archive of the activities of the now defunct Anarchist Free University. CONTACT: You can email maggflynn@gmail.com to RSVP (say hey!) or if you have any questions. ACCESSIBILITY: There is a ramp at the front entrance, no automatic door opener. The bathroom is on the mainfloor, but is not equipped with a grab bar. Unfortunately no ASL can be provided for this event due to lack of funds. CHILDCARE: No formal childcare is organized, but little ones are most welcome to join! PHOTO: Books damaged by the NYPD are photographed at a press conference held by People’s Library organizers
