KOREAN PIANO SENSATION PLAYS MOZART WITH SINFONIA TORONTO Brilliant Korean pianist Shiran Wang will be the guest soloist for Sinfonia Torontos next Masterpiece Series concert on November 8, performing Mozarts Piano Concerto No. 14. The 8 pm performance at Glenn Gould Studio will also feature Italian guest conductor Francesco La Vecchia leading the orchestra in Tchaikovskys beloved Souvenir de Florence. Shiran Wang, praised internationally as ‘the piano princess’ is a rising star who has been compared to the legendary Artur Rubinstein. Sony has just released her CD of Shostakovich piano concertos with the orchestra conducted by the composers son, Maxim Shostakovich. Ms. Wang performs regularly in the finest concert halls of Europe such as the Musikverein in Vienna, Berlin Philharmonic Hall, Prague’s Dvorak Hall, Munich’s Herkules Saal and the Auditorium Della Conciliazione in Rome, and has appeared in France, Spain, Slovak, Croatia, Russia, Ukraine, Hungary, South Korea , the US, Canada and Mexico. She has performed with orchestras including the Berlin Symphony, North Czech Philharmonic, Orchestra Sinfonica di Roma, Dubrovnik Symphony, Nurenberger Symphoniker, Moravian Philharmonic, Budapest Symphony, Prague Radio Symphony and Slovak Radio Symphony. Guest Conductor Francesco La Vecchia has conducted more than a hundred of the worlds leading orchestras and has recorded in Japan, Mexico, Canada, Brazil and Italy. The Maestro series of recordings, named after him, was first released in 1999. He founded the Orchestra Sinfonica del Lazio, the New World Young Orchestra, three festivals in Italy, one in Brazil and one in Mexico, and has served as artistic director, principal guest conductor and music director for orchestras, theatres and festivals in Hungary, Brazil, Mexico, Portugal and Italy. In 2002 he was appointed artistic director and resident conductor of the Orchestra Sinfonica di Roma. Celebrating its15th season this year, Sinfonia Toronto has toured in Europe twice, receiving glowing reviews. It has released four CDs including a JUNO winner, and performs in many Ontario cities. Its rich repertoire includes the string orchestra music of the 19th and 20th century, and it has premiered many new works.
