The World Stage Performance Gallery brings its Jazz Masters series to the Ford stage for this big band benefit concert and tribute to guitar legend Kenny Burrell, largely considered one of the greatest jazz guitarists of all time. With music direction by Grammy-nominated pianist John Beasley, this special concert will feature some of the finest jazz musicians in Los Angeles, including Burrell’s Los Angeles Jazz Orchestra Unlimited and Beasley’s MONK’estra. In addition, renowned guitarist Lee Ritenour and singers Gretchen Parlato, Georgia Anne Muldrow and Dwight Trible will join in this music-filled tribute that recognizes Burrell’s prolific career as well as his continued support of arts education. Named a 2005 Jazz Master by the National Endowment for the Arts for his exceptional contributions to the field of jazz, Burrell burst into the music scene as a member of Dizzy Gillespie’s sextet in 1951 and continues to play music grounded in bebop and blues.
