The Philippines’ official entry to the Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film, Bwakaw tells the story of Rene, a cantankerous elderly gay man who, having come out late in life, believes his best years are behind him. He humorously grumbles his way through his small-town existence, picking fights with the campy queens at the local beauty salon. But when his bickering relationship with rough-hewn taxi driver Sol suddenly turns friendly, Rene starts to feel the pangs of romantic love for the first time.
