Internationally renowned smooth jazz pianist Marcus Johnson wins over audiences with a style that draws on influences from throughout his young life: the rhythms of rap, the soul of R&B, the classical piano his mother played and the Earth, Wind & Fire concert he saw with his father. Johnson began playing jazz piano at the age of 13, after his his father bought him a piano with lottery winnings. He immersed himself in jazz, studying both traditional and contemporary musicians from Joe Sample to Thelonious Monk. His enthusiasm and passion led to a successful career with more than 15 Billboard-charted albums. His two latest releases, Poetically Justified and This Is How I Rock have further solidified his reputation as the successor to the George Duke and Herbie Hancock style of funky urban groove music, yet Johnson continues to evolve, with recent explorations into the “Euro Jazz” movement.
