The traditional folk dances of Mexico come to colorful life under the stars at the Ford Amphitheatre courtesy of Ballet Folklorico Ollín’s Retablos del Pasado: Moments of Passion and Revolution. Through their vibrant costumes, mariachi music and energetic choreography, this talented company tells the history of their homeland through the Nueva España era (1519-1821), with the heavy brocade and European-style hoop skirts of that period. Later, star students from the Mariachi Tesoro de San Fernando arts education program take the stage to perform music from Jalisco on traditional instruments like the viheula, guitarrón, trumpets and harp, accompanied by lace and ribbon-adorned dancers.
