Indie Soul Band JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound With Lisa Loeb

Post-punk soul specialists JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound bring the sweet sounds they’ve made popular in Chicago to the West Coast for a show at The Roxy. The son of a Jersey funk diva, Brooks’ powerful vocals carry on the musical tradition made famous by Sam Cooke and Curtis Mayfield, while breaking its own new ground. These Windy City favorites not only played Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s inauguration, but have also shared the stage with Robert Plant, Buddy Guy and Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy, among many others. The evening also features a set from singer-songwriter Lisa Loeb, whose “Stay (I Missed You)” became one of the defining song of the ’90s after it was featured in the film Reality Bites.
