Avery Schreiber Playhouse (North Hollywood, CA)
On Broadway, epic fails can often yield epic songs. Now ‘Carrie’ That Tune gathers the greatest songs from the biggest flops in the history of musical theater. For every smash hit like Book of Mormon, there are several flops — from disaster-prone debacles like Spiderman to the mother-of-all-stinkers Carrie. Yet, sometimes, hidden amongst the weak plot and awful characters and malfunctioning special effects are songs that achieve immortality (the good kind). Some of these “buried treasures” are kept alive in the recordings of Sinatra, Bennett or Ella Fitzgerald, but others slip into a twilight between fame and obscurity. Now the Mirror Theater presents an ingenious musical revue of these true “diamonds in the rough,” featuring hits like “Who Can I Turn To?”, “What Did I Have?” and “One Night in Bangkok.”
