Julia Vandepolder: AFTERGLOW

Dates: September 7, 2013 to September 7, 2013
Location: Telephone Booth Gallery
Julia Vandepolder’s new series of paintings transition from evocative subjects of collapsing and decayed urban and rural structures to self reflective studies of her own intimate spaces. Her work explores themes of time, loss, transformation and discovery. The richly seductive earth tones and textural surfaces create tension between abstraction and representational elements. The poetic stillness of her interiors is balanced with the direct and raw energy of her brushstrokes; thoughtful studies of shifting light, shadows and colour. BIOGRAPHY Vandepolder holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree specializing in Studio Art and Art History at the University of Guelph. She has won numerous awards including most recently the Ellen Langlands’ Memorial Award in the INSIGHTS Juried Show, Wellington County Museum & Archives and the First Prize Award in the Juried Art Show, Judith and Norman Alix Art Gallery, Sarnia. Vandepolder had a solo exhibition, Viewpoints this past April at the Al Green Gallery in Toronto and a solo exhibition, At the Edge of a Shadow at the Brant Museum & Archives, Brantford.
