Capturing the quiet, personal spaces of the back lanes in the city, this series of paintings of Torontos Junction area by Neil Whitworth provide the viewer with an intimate look at everyday life. Take a tour of the Junction through these paintings. Founded in 1884 as a village, the Junction grew into a town, and then it became the City of West Toronto before amalgamation with the City of Toronto in 1909. The area voted to prohibit alcohol sales in 1904 and the Junction did not completely lift their ban until 2000. Today, much of the original architecture is still intact so you can experience the rich history first hand. Etobicoke artist Neil was born in Montreal and as soon as he was able to hold a pencil, he had an interest in art. He studied at the Montreal Museum of Fine Art and other private art schools in the Montreal area. After 40 years in retail advertising for Eatons, Holt Renfrew, Simpsons and the Bay, he now has time to paint his favorite subject the varied Canadian landscape. Neils paintings are found in private collections in Canada, USA and Great Britain and in corporate collections including Honeywell and Inco. Neil is a member of The Etobicoke Art Group, Neilson Park Creative Centre and an elected member since 1998 of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour (CSPWC).
