FREE TIMES CAFE 320 Collage Street, Toronto ON 416-967-1078 8:30 pm Tickets: PWYC Chart-topping indie-folk artist Christa Couture performs music from The Living Record, an album that’s about as hard to sum up in a few words as the Mona-Lisa-like expression on her face on the cover photo. Christa is an adolescent cancer survivor who wrote the album in the aftermath of unimaginable tragedy in a span of four years her two young sons died under separate circumstances. And yet, to say it’s inspired by such devastation leaves one singularly unprepared for her sound: bright, beautifully-orchestrated indie folk; sweet, idiosyncratic vocals reminiscent of artists like Regina Spektor and Jane Siberry; a luscious palette of sonic styles and not a moment of self-indulgence to be found.
