Toronto New School of Writing is pleased to present an evening of readings by Karen Mac Cormack and Shannon Maguire in conjunction with Karens Temporality Workshop which takes place the same afternoon. KAREN MAC CORMACK is the author of more than a dozen books of poetry, most recently AGAINST WHITE (Veer Books, London, 2013). Her poems have appeared in a number of anthologies including Moving Borders, Out of Everywhere, Another Language, and Prismatic Publics. Her texts have been translated into French, Portuguese, Swedish, Norwegian. A long-term resident of Toronto she moved to the USA in 2004 where she teaches at the State University of New York at Buffalo. SHANNON MAGUIREs first book, fur(l) parachute, was released from BookThug in spring 2013 and was shortlisted for the Robert Kroetsch Award for Innovative Poetry. A selection of poems from fur(l), that first appeared in CV2, was a finalist for the Manitoba Magazine Awards in the category of Best Poem or Suite of Poems (2012). She is the author of three chapbooks: Vowel Wolves & Other Knots (2011), Fruit Machine (2012), and A Web of Holes (2012). She is the co-founder and co-curator of AvantGarden Reading Series (Toronto) and a PhD student under the supervision of Dr. Tanis MacDonald at Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo. She spends most of her time on the Greyhound bus procrastinating by reading and writing science fiction.
