DJs around the world know that winning the competition can launch their careers to brand new heights, and they’ve been honing their skills razor sharp for this week. Between Monday and Saturday the battles, starting at The Drake then hitting Blk Box, Modclub, the Danforth, the Hoxton and ending at Kool Haus, will be fierce and fun. Kid Koala, A-Trak, A Tribe Called Red and a ton of other big name producers and DJs are in town. You’ll want to spend this weekend sleeping in preparation. The 2013 Red Bull Thre3style will gather DJs from 21 different countries including Germany, Albania, Brazil, Azerbaijan, Japan, Ukraine, and Malaysia for its ultra heavy competition. The key to Thre3style is short, diverse sets: each competing DJ gets 15 minutes to spin at least three different musical genres, and points are earned by making it sound cohesive, fresh, and oh-so danceable. By dancing to each challenging set, you’re almost a judge yourself.
