The Stanfields, one of the countrys hottest touring rock/roots bands, are on a tour across Canada in November. They play The Bovine Sex Club November 15 in Toronto with label mates, The Town Heroes. The Stanfields were big winners at the 2013 East Coast Music Awards clinching Fans Choice Entertainers of the Year and Group Recording of the Year for their 2012 rock album, Death & Taxes. The band is currently nominated for five 2013 Nova Scotia Music Awards again including Fans Choice Entertainers of the Year. These awards will be handed out November 10th. The Stanfields have just returned from a European tour which included dates in Iceland, the UK, and Germany including a pair of standing-room only showcase performances atReeperbahn Festival in Hamburg, Germany. The band’s first acoustic project, For King and Country, is set for release in Canada on GroundSwell/Warner and in Germany on Rookie Records. Stanfields frontman and lead writer, Jon Landry explains: “There was no motive to write For King and Country other than trying to challenge ourselves. As songwriters, we always have an axe to grind in terms of lyrical expression. That will never change. Our world is too fucked up to let things slide. Be forewarned that the lyrics tend to lean towards the sarcastic side at times. I’m told sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, but then again some people take art way to seriously. All that aside, it was our collective desire to return to the core of what makes our band tick; western folk music and the vast expanse of form and style in which it presents itself. We love John Prine and Tommy Emmanuel. We lose our shit over Planxty and Neil Young. Ricky Skaggs is the man. To date, we’ve made a couple rock and roll records that we are proud of and that we will always stand behind. Rest assured to the initiated, we will continually attempt to peel the paint off the walls of your local tavern, legion, youth centre or arena. We haven’t gone soft. In fact, I think we went harder. We hope our fans enjoy listening to For King and Country as much as we did making it, as a group of friends jamming in a cottage over a few nights full of whiskey, cheer and song. Exactly the way we started our band in the first place.” The Stanfields will tour towns and cities throughout Canada in November 2013including dates in Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, Victoria andVancouver. Tour dates will alternate acoustic shows in soft seat venues earlier in the week with the bands full-on rock show in clubs on the weekends. The band also plans a full acoustic tour of the Maritimes in December 2013 which will include a CBC taping. Joining The Stanfields on their Canadian tour are The Town Heroes, the Halifax (by way of Cape Breton) duo known for their catchy, lyrical rock songs and huge, hard-hitting sound that got them voted Best Band in The Coasts 2012 Best of Music poll. The Town Heroes released their own new recording, Sunday Movies, earlier this month.
