Downey Civic Theatre (Downey, CA)
With the World Cup soccer tournament coming up this summer, the Downey Symphony Orchestra will celebrate with music from or about countries that are traditional soccer powerhouses for World Cup Classico. This all-professional orchestra will play pieces that celebrate Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Spain and Italy in a season-closing concert. Heading the exciting program is prize-winning Spanish composer Oscar Navarro’s Downey Overture, written for and dedicated to the Downey Symphony. Additionally, the brilliant young Christopher Bartz will play Villa-Lobos’ Fantasia for Saxophone and Orchestra, and the ensemble will perform pieces by Ginastera, Moncayo, Verdi and Rimsky-Korsakov.
