Walt Disney Concert Hall (Los Angeles, CA)
The Los Angeles Philharmonic’s Minimalist Jukebox Festival wouldn’t be complete without a contribution from the famed composer most associated with the movement — Oscar-nominee Philip Glass. His finale for the monumental opera the CIVIL warS, dubbed the Rome section, hits the stage at the stunning Walt Disney Hall for a Grant Gershon-conducted performance by the Phil and the Los Angeles Master Chorale, along with guest vocalists and narrators. Originally written for the 1984 Olympic Arts Festival and inspired by Matthew Brady’s photography, this powerful operatic cantata explores the vagaries of war and peace through such diverse characters as Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln, Robert E. Lee, famed Italian warrior and unifier Giuseppe Garibaldi and even Greek hero Hercules.
