Families Feud in Tragic Opera Lucia di Lammermoor From LA Opera
Dorothy Chandler Pavilion (Los Angeles, CA)

LA Opera brings Gaetano Donizetti’s tragic opera Lucia di Lammermoor back to Los Angeles for the first time in a decade. Loosely based on Sir Walter Scott’s historical novel, Lucia concerns the emotionally fragile Lucy Ashton, who’s caught in a vicious feud between families. The setting is the hills of Scotland (Lammermoor) in the 17th century. Donizetti wrote Lucia in 1835 — a time when Europeans were highly interested in the history and culture of Scotland, having romanticized its violent wars and feuds, and its folklore and mythology. This production is sung in Italian, with English supertitles.
