In their first collaboration since the internationally acclaimed War Horse, Bristol Old Vic’s Artistic Director Tom Morris and Cape Town’s Handspring Puppet Company reunite for a production of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This whimsical story of romance, mischief and magic follows four young lovers into the forest on a midsummer’s night as they become the unwitting victims in a lover’s quarrel between the king and queen of fairies. When a hapless troupe of local actors rehearsing a play in the forest also gets caught up in the madness, the comical snarl of spells seems impossible to sort out. Reality and illusion become wildly confused as gifted actors and talented puppeteers create a Dream the likes of which you’ve never imagined.
