The Pasadena Playhouse (Pasadena, CA)
With marriage equality in the headlines almost daily, it’s the perfect time to savor the emotional depth and sparkling wit of Noel Coward’s A Song at Twilight, born at the beginning of the gay rights movement. Aging English novelist Hugo Latymer and his stately wife are visited by Hugo’s flashy former mistress, Carlotta, who is up to no good. Old love letters emerge, and memories are stirred up for Hugo, who — despite a life of wealth, success, laughter, luxury and travel — lives in an emotional prison of regret. He long ago abandoned the one person he truly loved, choosing instead a life of conforming to society. Is there still time? A Song at Twilight stars Sharon Lawrence (Rizzoli & Isles, Drop Dead Diva), Bruce Davison (General Hospital, Saving Lincoln) and Roxanne Hart (Hung, Medium), and is directed by Art Manke, who the Los Angeles Times calls, “L.A.’s Coward specialist.”
