Cavalli’s La Calisto From Pacific Opera Project
The Highland Park Ebell Club (Los Angeles, CA)

Based on a Greek myth and composed in 1651, the Pacific Opera Project puts its own sensual and humorous spin on Francesco Cavalli’s La Calisto, which finds the lovely nymph of the title tricked into giving up her virtue by a cross-dressing mortal, which incurs the wrath of the gods, leading to a bear of a curse. The L.A. premiere from this innovative company boasts live accompaniment by a small orchestra on period instruments, and stars Los Angeles-based soprano Claire Averill in the title role.
