Dorothy Chandler Pavilion (Los Angeles, CA)

"A Streetcar Named Desire"

Tennessee Williams’ landmark drama A Streetcar Named Desire depicts the clash between Southern belle Blanche DuBois and her brutish brother-in-law Stanley Kowalski. The intense passion behind Kowalski’s iconic howl of “Stelllaaa!” and the tragic emotion behind DuBois’ fragile romantic illusions of Southern gentility are powerfully brought to life on stage as you’ve likely never seen before by LA Opera. Set during a steamy summer in New Orleans’ French Quarter, raw despair leads ultimately to tragedy in Williams’ play, which was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. This version of the production stars opera superstar Renée Fleming as DuBois.
