Ballet legend Mikhail Baryshnikov joins Annie-B Parson and Paul Lazar, the team behind the internationally acclaimed Big Dance Theater, to bring two of Anton Chekov’s haunting love stories to the stage in Man in a Case. Growing out of the choreographers’ mixed media style, the production draws on everything from surveillance footage to folk dance, instructional hunting videos and interviews with the cast to examine the every-day tragedy of fear trumping the pursuit of life’s most promising possibilities. In the first story, an officious, anti-social man becomes involved with an extroverted woman. The second, a tale of moral ambiguity, centers on a protagonist who forgoes his love for a married woman.
